Maylita is a guide dog in training for Guide Dogs for the Blind. She recently underwent a laparoscopic ovariectomy or “lap spay” here at Parkway and did great. A lap spay is less invasive than the traditional spay procedure. It involves making two small incisions in the abdominal wall and using a small camera and instrument port to remove the ovaries. A few benefits of a lap spay include less pain and tissue trauma, minimal to no bleeding, and better visualization of the ovaries and internal structures. Patients that undergo this procedure are also able to go home the same day! Congratulations Maylita on being this month’s Pet of the Month.
